Machete Attack Leaves EBSU Student In Hospital... Over N200 'Security Charges'

A final year student of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, has been hospitalized with machete cuts following an attack by members of a local vigilante group on students of the institution over imposed security fees.
Student Pulse gathered that members of the Ishieke vigilante group "invaded" the students’ lodge to collect due security fees, set at N200 per student
The resulting clash left a final year student with severe machete cuts.
He was later rushed to the hospital.
A Daily Trust source confirmed that the vigilantes members maltreated the students.
“They came to collect security fees which they imposed on students to pay every semester. On arrival, they barged into students’ rooms and started maltreating them.
"Some students became infuriated and decided to resist the intimidation and a clash ensued,” the source said.
Student Pulse learnt that students are reluctant to pay the fees because, according to a witness, the vigilante group do not take action when cases of robbery or burglary are reported.
Ebonyi state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu said three persons have been arrested over the incident.
