The Plateau State government has sacked no fewer than 1000 teachers over falsification of certificates and incompetence

A thousand primary school teachers have been sacked by the Plateau state government "due to incompetence."
Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang, disclosed this while speaking on the falling quality of education at a public lecture held at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) last Thursday.
Premium Times reported that the governor lamented the influx of unqualified teachers into the teaching profession.
“[Plateau state] just sacked 1,000 teachers due to incompetence. We kept battling the teachers with fake certificates," Jang said.
"You can imagine that some persons, who have no business in the education sector whatsoever, are teachers in our schools."
He also lamented the poor state of facilities in educational facilities in the country.
“It is pathetic to see a science school without a laboratory; cobwebs everywhere. While I was serving as a military administrator in Benue State, I met a teacher in a bush, teaching pupils under a tree,” he said.
Jang lamented that the educational system is threatened, especially at the very important foundation.
“Our elementary educational system, which is supposed to be the starting point for our young ones, is on the verge of collapse,” he said.
The governor said his government is in the process of setting things right in the state's educational section, adding that as many as 60 schools have so far been renovated.
