The leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has lauded the Rector of Yaba College Of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, Dr. Mrs. Kudirat Ladipo, for setting a high standards in the institution.
NAPS Senate President, Comr. Salahudeen A. Lukman, gave the commendation in a statement sent to Student Pulse after a nationwide campus tour by the body.
"On stepping the great Yaba College of Technology
(YABATECH) Lagos, everything looks, appears and works exceptionally,
the beauty of the campus and the standard of the academic activities
call for re-visit.
"Despite the old age of the
Institution with the predicament of low land mass someone couldn’t
believe no old structure can be found on the campus again," he said.
Lukman
added that YABATECH has set standards that all other polytechnics
should aspire to, especially as they lobby to to become degree awarding
institutions.
"[We] are convinced that if all
polytechnic can emulate and set standard of YABA COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY
we shall have no force and less battle to acquire DEGREE AWARDING STATUS
for all polytechnic in Nigeria."
Lukman said the amount of progress noted attested to the dedication of the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Kudirat Ladipo.
"Our
inspection team [conferred] the crown of outstanding performance on the
management team, staffs and students of the great College led by the
Rector Dr. Mrs. Kudirat Ladipo," the statement read in part.
Lukman
explained that the union organizes the campus tour to inspect the
wellbeing of the student and observe the infrastructure at the various
polytechnics in order to identify areas and specific institutions that
may need special or urgent intervention.
The students leader also hailed the appointment of new education minister Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau.
He
said the students "believe in his [Shekarau's] integrity and
unquestionable background with sound concern, moral and special passion
for education/ youth development in Nigeria."
It will be recalled that Shekarau engineered an end to the 11-month old Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) strike shortly after his appointment.
