A delegate at the National Conference, Prof. Olufemi Mimiko, has announced that he will he will donate part of his conference allowance support to indigent students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA).
Mimiko who is the Vice Chancellor of AAUA said the scholarship would students who have not been able to pay their school fees.
“Let
me tell you today, part of what we got from the national Conference
will be dropped for the indigent students through the scholarship scheme
we have on ground," Mimiko said at a reception organized for him by the
AAUA Staff and management.
Mimiko, who is also a brother to the current governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, did not state the sum that will be put into the scheme.
However,
with each each delegate at the confab receiving a monthly allowance of
N4 million, from March, the sums at his disposal would be in the region
of N16 Million at the end of July.
The VC revealed
that he had initially considered shunning the conference over fears
that his absence might impact the institution negatively.
Interestingly, Mimiko is the only VC among the 497 delegates at the national confab.
He thanked the staff for keeping things running in his 4-month absence.
It will be recalled that many Nigerians had complained about the large amount allocated for delegates' allowance, especially with a number of the delegates caught sleeping during the sessions.
