The first set of intakes to Etisalat
Telecommunications Engineering Programme at Ahmadu Bello University has
concluded a four-week internship with the technical team at Etisalat.
Speaking on the internship, the Director,
Brands and Communication at Etisalat Nigeria, Enitan Denloye, noted
that, “Etisalat hosted a four-week internship period as part of the
compulsory course requirement for the Masters programme.”
Denloye said the first set of intakes recently concluded the internship with the company’s trained technical team in Abuja.
He said, “In addition, Etisalat has
provided access to e-resources for the programme to students and
lecturers alike. Apart from the internship, we are also sponsoring
lecturers of ABU to undertake doctorate degrees in Telecommunication
Engineering at the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom.
“The first two lecturers are in the first
year of the programme, while plans are in place for another set of
lecturers to proceed by the end of this year.”
One of the participants of the internship
programme, Mr. Bello Habeeb, said, “Etisalat Telecommunications
Engineering Programme is an excellent programme, which would equip
engineering graduates with the capacity and expertise in optimally
staffing the telecommunications sector.”
He added, “Graduates from this programme
would also serve as manpower to effectively steer the telecommunications
industry, which has been tagged as the backbone of the new economy.”
Mr. Chuks Nzefili, also a participant, commended Etisalat for the initiative and thanked them for the opportunity.
Nzeifi said, “The ETEP internship has
helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge in the classroom and
practical experience on the field, thus deepening the knowledge
acquisition process.
“Etisalat Nigeria is building capacity
and enabling the creation of resource persons in Telecommunications
Engineering. That is the best that can be done for a nation.”
An all-expense paid trip to the Etisalat
Academy, in the United Arab Emirates, is underway for the three best
graduating students of the postgraduate programme, to broaden their
learning experience and gain certification in this field. The first set
of these will embark on their journey shortly, the firm said.
