Candidates who applied for admission into Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, for the 2014/2015 sessions are facing a tough ordeal as the institution holds its Post UTME (PUTME) test.
Sources say nearly 30,000 applicants turned out for the PUTME despite the institution having only roughly 3000 spots available.
Some of the applicants who spoke with Student Pulse say they are having tough time as logistics put in place by the institution have failed.
One of the students who is also expecting to write the examination, Opeyemi Badmus (real names witheld) said the AAUA authorities did not plan well.
"Organisation is poor, imagine someone scheduled for 10am writing the exam around 5pm," she said.
She added that many applicants are confused following abrupt changes in the schedule and unexplained delays.
"A
message was sent to us that we should go and reprint another schedule
which now shows that mine has been shifted to 3pm on Saturday 3pm.
"Some who thought they will write on Saturday were surprised when the new schedules show that they will be writing."
Another source at the institution who spoke to Student Pulse said students were still queuing to write the examinations as at 9pm on Wednesday.
"Students
were still queuing to write after 9pm at night and some did not succeed
eventually and were asked to come back today," he said.
The poor planning of the examination started from the announcement of the PUTME schedule on the AUAU website.
Registration
ended on August and applicants only got to know the date on Tuesday 5th
of August and examinations started the next day.
"Imagine
someone in another part of the country who finds out around 4pm on
Tuesday that he has to be in Akungba before 9am the next day," an irate
student said.
Student Pulse also
learnt that the institution sold the Post UTME forms to students who did
not pick the institution when writing the UTME examinations.
"Direct
Entry candidates who chose the University and Candidates who did not
pick Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko as a choice but scored
180 and above in the 2014/2015 UTME and are interested in admission to
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko," AAUA Registrar Bamidele
Olotu said in an announcement published on its website.
Also,
the examination is Computer Based Test (CBT) whereas the institution
has a very limited number of computers, leading to delays.
The examinations will hold until Sunday 10th of August.
