Policemen from the Abia State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old student for allegedly killing his 87-year old father, Dr. Emmanuel Ezebuiro.
The suspect, Chijioke Ezebuiro, is an undergraduate at the Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, according to a Punch report, said the suspect was arrested because he was the only one around at the time of the murder.
Ogbonna
said the late octogenarian was killed on the the 30th of June 2014 at
his home in Umuoriehi, Isingwu in Umuahia North LGA of Abia state.
He
explained that the elder brother of the suspect had alerted the police
after discovering their late father in a pool of blood.
I Did Not Do It
The
suspect has however denied killing his father, denying claims by his
elder brother that he had several timed in the past threatened the
deceased.
He explained that he was not present when their late father was killed.
“After taking my bath as I was going towards my room I saw people screaming in my father’s room.
“When
I got there, I saw my brother and my cousin. I was shocked to see blood
on my father’s head. I was so scared I had to go downstairs to call one
of my cousins.
“When I came back, I asked them
what happened and none of them told me anything. The next thing was for
me to see the police coming to arrest me, saying I am a murderer, that’s
all.”
Era Of Parricide?
If
it is proven that Chijioke actually murdered his father, it will be the
second parricide by a student in the month of July alone.
21-year-old Tolani Ajayi, a 300-level student of the Department of History and International Relations at Redeemer University, Ogun State, is presently in police net after he killed his father, hacked the body into bits and hit it in a bush near his family home.
Also, in April 2014, Ebonyi police arrested a certain Chukwudi Nwode Awam, 30, who beheaded his father and ate part of his neck.
