Girl Shot Dead In Hotel Is A Drop-Out, Not Our Student — Babcock

A 22-year-old female undergraduate who was shot dead by a guard at Mambilah Hotel, Ikorodu, Lagos, was not a student of Babcock University at the time of her death, says an official of the institution.
The student, Busayo Ogunkoya, died on Saturday, 5th of July, after she was shot in the neck by a drunk guard identified as Azeez Ibrahim at a birthday party.
It was reported in the media that late Ogunkoya was until her death a student of Babcock University.
But the Director, Communication and Marketing at Babcock, Mr. Joshua Suleiman, has denied this in an official statement quoted in a Punch report.
Suleiman noted that the deceased was once a student of the institution but had dropped out at some point.
“While we regret the passing away of Busayo Ogunkoya, and sympathise with her family who currently are in anguish over this irreparable loss, Babcock University wishes to state here unequivocally that the victim was not our student at the time of her death.
“She was admitted into Babcock University during the 2011/2012 academic session to read Public Administration. She dropped out of the university after one semester.
"Since then, she ceased to be our student. Therefore, she could not have been our student.’’
The guard who shot and killed late Ogunkoya has since been arrested.
Babcock University, a private Nigerian university, is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria.
