Not Again: Tanker Explosion Rocks Apapa, Lagos

The Apapa area of Lagos was jolted awake this morning after a Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) loaded tanker exploded at the Total Depot Dockyard at about 5am this morning.
Reports state that the fire was triggered by oil bunkers who were transferring PMS from the tanker into kegs, unfortunately one of the kegs fell at some point bursting into flames and engulfing the entire tanker in flames.
The fire raged from about 5am in the morning till 10am before men of Oando and Total fire fighters and the Fire Service arrived the scene to put it out.
Fortunately though, no life was lost as the illegal bunkers were reported to have fled the scene once the fire broke out. Several shops, as well as a part of a Church building around the area were however razed.
Meanwhile residents of the area had reportedly made several complaints in the past to the police on illegal activities of the bunkerers, but so far nothing had been done.
It would be recalled that another tanker had exploded in the Apapa area back in June which certain reports claimed was a car bombing before Lagos state spokesmen refuted the reports stating instead that it a gasline explosion.
